Cupertino’s began in 2007 when Walter Baietti Sr., a Bronx native, brought a true New York–style bagel shop to Richmond, VA. He knew exactly what the area was missing, and with his family by his side, he opened the doors at 3621 Cox Road—introducing Richmond to the kind of bagels he grew up with.

By the end of 2014, Walter passed the torch to his General Manager, Nino Palazzotto. Nino had left his own family’s restaurant business at just 17, chasing opportunity and working nights across the city. What started as a daytime second job at Cupertino’s quickly became a passion. His dedication, work ethic, and natural leadership didn’t go unnoticed. When Walter saw Nino’s commitment and talent—especially during a time when the shop needed new energy—he knew Nino was the right person to carry the legacy forward.

Nino pulled together everything he had to make the purchase happen, and once he did, he poured himself into growing the business.

Fast forward to 2025: Cupertino’s is now Richmond’s oldest and most beloved bagel shop, producing more than 7,000 bagels every day. Our bagels are delivered to schools, cafés, restaurants, and even grocery stores across the region. And every morning, people from all over the metro area line up for what many proudly call “Richmond’s Bagel.”
